Nineteen Years Serving the RebbeAs I Heard Them, Vol. 1, p. 304, no. 38 When Reb Hillel Paritcher passed through Homil he would stay with Reb Aizel. “Say Chassidus!” Reb Hillel once asked him at a festive meal. “Why me?! Say yourself!” “I’m the gaon?! I’m the tzaddik?! I was by the Alter Rebbe?!” “Gaon?” asked Reb Aizel. “It’s the Eibershter’s Torah. Tzaddik? I’m no tzaddik. And spending time with the Alter Rebbe?” Reb Aizel stood up then, and cried out, “Thank You, Ribono Shel Olam , for letting me serve the Rebbe for 19 years!” Four Hours Between Two DoorsAs I Heard Them, Vol. 1, p. 122, no. 8 Regarding the Rebbe Maharash’s modesty, my zeide once came upon the Rebbe as he sat in tallis and tefillin for four hours between two doors — intending that people would think he was elsewhere. |
