Continued from the biography of R. Eliyahu Akiva Lipskar:
One day, the telephone rang in R. Eliyahu’s house. On the other side of the line was a member of Anash who informed him of the troubles of a family who were headed to Toronto. As this family had no place to stay, the caller requested of Mrs. Lipskar that she host them until they settle down in their new city.
In those days, various matters were difficult for her, and she did not immediately respond with a positive answer. The next day, the man of the family contacted her himself. He explained that he was currently en route to Toronto with his wife and small baby, and his family had nowhere to st ay.
He beseeched her to host him for an allotted time, until he could find alternative accommodation. In response to his distress, she gave him her address and prepared her home to receive guests.
As usual, she received them with a joyful countenance, and endeavored to provide all that they required.
After they had rested somewhat from the tiring journey, she conversed with them regarding their respective origins.
The husband informed her of his family name, but she did not recognize it.
“Perhaps you’ve heard of my grandfather?” he suggested.
“Who was your grandfather?” she asked curiously.
“His name was Yisroel Konson, ” he answered.
“Konson?!” she exclaimed, “Which Konson?”
“Yisroel Konson. From Leningrad, from Tashkent… ”
The lady of the house was dumbfounded. She was astounded; it seemed as if her tongue was severed, as she could not speak due to her great emotion. Clearly, this was the grandson of the beloved R. Yisroel Konson who had risked his health to assist her and her husband when they hovered between life and death. Who knew if this great, courageous man was still alive?
All who heard of this wondrous meeting between Mrs. Lipskar, and the grandson of R. Yisroel, were astounded by the Divine providence. Hashem, who knows all, orchestrated a most astonishing occurrence.
The Lipskar family now concerned themselves with every minute need of these new arrivals. They endeavored to offer loans in order for them to purchase a home in Toronto, and they did all they could to assist them. As such, they were able to repay the kindness that their grandfather had done for them.
So she merited to off-load a burden which had weighed on her for many years. As she was wont to state: “Who will assist me to repay this great individual who has done so much on my behalf?” See the power of hachnassas orchim!
